Reflection 14

This class has been very benifical to me. I always loved coloring and doing arts in elementary school. This class taught me more though. It taught me a lot about drama and music that i didn't know. I think that arts is very important in the classroom, and that its what students need. It will help and let them be more expressive and creative.

I loved integrating drama and music into books and different core subjects. It was so easy to pick a picture book and then integrate arts with it. It made it more fun and knowledeable for me as the teacher as well as the students.

I can see though how integrating arts can take time for you to prepare, so then you might question whether it is worth it or not. I think and have seen that it is worth it. The students love variety, they aren't robots that want to do the same thing. They so willing to try new things and to have fun and laugh in the classroom.

I think thats what arts is all about; having fun in the classroom and making something memeorable for the students. The students will get more out of school as a whole if i take the time to integrate arts into the core subjects. It is a win win for me as the teacher and the students!

Reflection 13

I have seen first hand that integrating arts into teaching makes it more fun, memorable, and helps the students learn the material better.

I have seen art integrated into just about every core subject. I have also seen the students just go to an art class. Both of these are fun for the students and effective in helping them grow in their studies.

In my field experience my cooperating teacher inegrated art into persuasive writing. The students had to choose to write about whether or not their teacher should eat turkey (Frank) at Thanksgiving, or not. Then they wrote their persuasive letter to her and they were able to draw a turkey named Frank to be hung out on their bulletin board. They also did art while learning about heredity. Within this section the class each got a butterfly and had to draw on it so that it would be camouflauged somewhere in the room. The students loved coloring their butterfly then putting it where it would blend in. Later on in the unit they had another teacher come in that they called birdzilla. Birdzilla had to go around the room and try to find everyone's butterflies. The kids really like having art integrated into their core subjects.

Once a week the students also go to an art class for 40 minutes. They learned about texture one week when i was their. It was really cool seeing them learn about something that we did in our class. The kids do love art and respond great to it!

Reflection 12

This past week my partner and I had the privledge of creating and decorating the fifth grade bulletin board. I know that this wasn't the kids doing art but it was really good for my partner and I. We put a cute saying on the board then decorated it with the kids turkey's they colored. Also this week the kids got to see the 6th grade play "Annie." It was really fun for them to get to see this production. I know it made them even more excited to be in the sixth grade next year.

I think that i can show and help my colleagues with fun ideas of plays, and decorating bulletin boards and rooms. I know that i learned a lot doing my field experience, and i hope to help others that have questions, as wella s have others help me.

I know my colleagues will have great ideas of different ways to incooperate art into the classroom. I know that i will have some ideas that i can share with them as well. I have seen how much art can let kids experess themselves and just have fun!

Reflection 11

This past week in field there were a few things that the class did that went a long with art. They had their specialty class where they learned about texture. They were givin crayons and different things that had texture so that they could put their paper on top of it and then color over the texture. They also colored a turkey in class for their bulletin board.

I really liked these two activities that my class did. The texture one was great and really let the kids do the hands on and feel the difference in textures. The class got to color the turkey's becuase it went with their persuassive letter they were writing. So they did art, but it went along with what they were learning that was part of the core.

I want to remember these ideas and then incooperate them into my lessons that i will teach to my class one day. I really like that my teacher incooperated art into core subjects. I hope to be able to do fun art activities in my classroom one day that will have meaning to what we are learning.

Field Experience

For the past week or so i have been in a fifth grade classroom. The classroom is very full with about thirty four students. At this school there is late start and early start, so A track comes at eight in the morning then leaves at 2:15, where as B track comes at 9:15 and leaves at 3:30.

Things have been going pretty well in the classroom. Our cooperating teacher is amazing, she is very good at handling the students, and making sure that they are having fun and learning. This class is also pretty good at transitions. After one subject they are pretty good about knowing what to do next, they work well as a class. The class did a few read aloud play things. They were in groups of three and everyone in a group got a part in the play that they were reading. These plays were interesting, but they cooresponded with math, mostly division. They kids were very creative and put their own personality into their parts.

Now for me as a future teacher i am trying to take in all i can from this field experience. I would love to be even half the teacher that my cooperating teacher is now. I am taking notes on how she runs things, what she does for rewards and punishements. Also everyone in the class as a job that they get to do and they change weekly. I think that is a very good thing so that everyone can feel important and have their own job. I will continue to take notes as well as teach a few more lessons and hopefully improve everytime!

Reflection 9

This week in creative arts we watched as each group preformed the book and activities that went with it for Music.

I really liked how we got in groups and did a subject that could help us in our field work. It helped me to see and notice that songs really do help in memorizing and learning material. I really hope to be able to show that to my friends and family as well as future colleagues, that music is a very good and productive way of teaching. I learned a lot from singing the songs.

Now that i have learned all about this wonderful material i need to incooperate it into my studies now so that when i become a teacher i will be able to model and show my students how effective music/singing is in the classroom. Also to help me i am going to have that website with the songs and words so that i can always have something to sing with my students.

Reflection 8

Music is a very important thing and should be used in the classroom whenever possible. It really helps the students be involved and try to be creative in trying new things.

Some of my goals for teaching music are just rememebering to incooperate it whenever possible. From class i found that music can help students with beat and rythm as well as using your voice for good things instead of just yelling and being loud.

To help me in my planning as a teacher i am going to get the lesson plans from my peers so that i will have other ways to teach music with different books/curriculum. This mext week in class i hope to be able to see other ways that i can implement music into my class someday.

Reflection 7

This week we presented in our groups a book with creative children's dance. My understanding this week deepend, I was able to see everything that the groups did, and how they made it work with dance. Each group did something totally different which is awesome so that way we can get different ideas to use in the classroom.

From this past week i will be taking everything! I love that we can incooperate dance into books and things that we are learning in the classroom, it makes everything a lot more memorable. Coming up with these ideas and plans isn't easy though, it takes a lot of effort. So if you have good colleauges then i would suggest coming with ideas together because two heads or more are better than one!

Now i hope that i can be the teacher that puts creative dance into her lessons. I know that it will not be to easy at first, but once i get the hang of it i know that it will be worth it. The students will love it and learn so much from it. To prepare i will take all these wonderful ideas that we are doing in class and keep them in a folder so that i already have lessons plans made for me!

Reflection 6

This week in creative arts we talked about dance and how it can be incooperated into everyday lessons.

For me this week was really fun yet i could tell that a lot of effort went into preparing and giving the lesson. Dance is a fun thing and can really help the students to learn and express themselves in ways they never would have on their own. My teacher read "Where the Wild Things Are" to my class and she stopped on every page and we would dance out what was happening on each page. It was reall nice to get up and moving yet still be learning.

I know that i can/will take dance into my classroom when i am a teacher. It will help my students be active as well as creative. In a couple of weeks i will be going to feild and with everything that i am learning now i say "oh that'll be perfect for when i am teaching my own class someday," but i never have said " oh that'll be so fun to teach my kids in feild next week." So i now am going to say that i am excited to take dance and do my best to incooperate it into my feild work and make what i am teaching the kids fun and memorable .

Reflection 5

This week i learned that processed drama through text can be realy fun and exciting. It can take a little more work to come up with the activities, yet, at the same time it will make it more memorable.

There are so many different drama activities that me as a teacher can incooperate in my lessons. The presentations this week just showed how well drama can be taught in class. There are a lot of ideas that i want to bring into my classroom such as; turing off the lights, having background music if it is raining or birds are cherping, have the kids use their voices and body language and act like a character. There are many more ideas that i will take from this weeks lessons and put them in my class.

Right now i can do my best to learn everything and write it all down so that i will rememeber these ideas and teach them to my class. With everything that we did in class this week, i can see how different things were taught and hopefull use them in my class. I am excited to take everything I learned from drama and implement it into my teaching career one day.

Reflection 4

I loved learning about drama this week! The activities and games that we played are going to be perfect in the classroom. This week we learned games like; who started the motion, machines, mirror, story as one, and alphabet story.

All of these games get the children moving, learning and expressing themselves. You need creativity in your classroom for your sake and the childrens sake. Children like to be involved and create their own things. I think the machine game would be perfect for these students that like to create and use their imagination. Yet the motions game is good for those people that like to be the leader. Some people might not even know that they like to lead but this game can help them find that inner leader in them.

These games and activies are great at getting the kids involved and using their creative minds. I loved learning about drama, and i am excited to do my own activity with drama next week.

Reflection 3

This week i learned how to make learning about illustrators fun! With each illustrator that we talked about we got to see a fun idea of how to incooperate their art styles into our own lives.

I know that with the fun things that i have learned i will be able to take these into my classroom someday and make learning fun and exciting for my kids. This can also help me now as i am preparing lesson plans and giving presentations. No matter what you are teaching you can make it fun an interesting. I can do that by making what i am teaching relate to them somehow, let my kids be creative in how they want to go about a project. The big thing that i have learned is just to make sure my kids know and understand that they are all unique and creative in different ways, that there is not a right or wrong way to portray art. I liked learning about the different styles of the illustrators.

Reflection 2

What? I have learned a lot about visual arts from reading the text as well as attending class. I think one of the big things that i have learned is that the arts are needed when teaching classes. When you incoporate the arts into your teaching, it will help the students learn better. Me as a teacher will also find that my students will be able to express themselves in a creative fun way.
So What? For me as a future teacher means that i will need to work hard and teaching the arts along with the core subjects. For me as a teacher it means that it might take more time making up lesson plans but it will be worth it when the students learn all that they need to.
Now What? Now as being a student i need to really pay attention so that i will know how to teach the arts in my classroom. I always new that the arts were important and good to teach but i have now learned that we need to teach them along with the core material. That is what i will learn and take back to my classroom.

Creative Arts 1

What: My personal experience with the arts has been decent. I had a few really good teachers in my elementary years that did a good job of incorporating arts into other subjects. I also had a few teachers that really brought music to our classroom and would have it playing the background, or else we would learn songs either for fun or that helped us remember something we were learning.
So What: For me arts has always been something that i loved. My favorite time of day would be art time. And in my 3rd grade year we put on a program for the whole school. We learned a lot of songs and some of the songs had dances or actions that we would do. It was just really fun to have that time during the day to learn songs and dance. Some of my favorite teachers were the ones that really cared about my school work and my life. The ones that really got to know me. The teachers that i weren't close to were the ones that just cared about the homework and grades, not about their students. So i hope to take what i learned from my teachers and apply it to my life so that i can be the best teacher possible.
Now What: Now i need to take skills that i have see teachers do as well as what i learned in chapters 1-3 and use them. As for preparing myself for integrative teaching i need to practice teaching and see what kind of art i could use while teaching a core subject.
