Reflection 14

This class has been very benifical to me. I always loved coloring and doing arts in elementary school. This class taught me more though. It taught me a lot about drama and music that i didn't know. I think that arts is very important in the classroom, and that its what students need. It will help and let them be more expressive and creative.

I loved integrating drama and music into books and different core subjects. It was so easy to pick a picture book and then integrate arts with it. It made it more fun and knowledeable for me as the teacher as well as the students.

I can see though how integrating arts can take time for you to prepare, so then you might question whether it is worth it or not. I think and have seen that it is worth it. The students love variety, they aren't robots that want to do the same thing. They so willing to try new things and to have fun and laugh in the classroom.

I think thats what arts is all about; having fun in the classroom and making something memeorable for the students. The students will get more out of school as a whole if i take the time to integrate arts into the core subjects. It is a win win for me as the teacher and the students!

Reflection 13

I have seen first hand that integrating arts into teaching makes it more fun, memorable, and helps the students learn the material better.

I have seen art integrated into just about every core subject. I have also seen the students just go to an art class. Both of these are fun for the students and effective in helping them grow in their studies.

In my field experience my cooperating teacher inegrated art into persuasive writing. The students had to choose to write about whether or not their teacher should eat turkey (Frank) at Thanksgiving, or not. Then they wrote their persuasive letter to her and they were able to draw a turkey named Frank to be hung out on their bulletin board. They also did art while learning about heredity. Within this section the class each got a butterfly and had to draw on it so that it would be camouflauged somewhere in the room. The students loved coloring their butterfly then putting it where it would blend in. Later on in the unit they had another teacher come in that they called birdzilla. Birdzilla had to go around the room and try to find everyone's butterflies. The kids really like having art integrated into their core subjects.

Once a week the students also go to an art class for 40 minutes. They learned about texture one week when i was their. It was really cool seeing them learn about something that we did in our class. The kids do love art and respond great to it!
